In reality, the film machine is entangled in structures of dominion and fear that permeate every atom of its being and are projected outward. It is bound by symbols and doctrines preserved by tradition. The film machine’s manipulations and perfectionist strivings stem from the need to defend against the harsh, sadistic impositions of these mechanisms.
