Funeral

With her face as principal collage element, Solano builds an ever-transforming world full of ecstatic mythical figures in undulating motion; a world without time or place, beginning or end. Created through basic means such as line drawing, collage, photography and computer editing, her work reveals what we otherwise never would have seen: the hidden trauma exposing itself. In a series of short animated films, individual figures perform as a collective, dealing with energetic powers that are invisible to human eyes. Her figures undergo all kinds of transformations. They acquire wings, drown, become fertility symbols or float around in an endless cosmos. Solano’s animations are playful but also macabre: half human and half animal, with penetrating eyes and outstretched claws, they are creatures that live inside her, and which she came to know when her gaze was forced inward by an ill-fated situation.
