An artificial camera pans slowly through almost still images of teenage boys’ rooms, computer screens and science-fiction props. Two films and a television series from the 1980s and 1990s form the source material: WarGames and Real Genius both feature early hacker and nerd cultures against the backdrop of an escalating Cold War. SeaQuest DSV was a weekly drama series set on a futuristic submarine. They all feature elements of masculine coming-of-agestories. Lives seem to intertwine. Screens crackle. Spaces fold, pervaded by toxicity.
